How to pack items for storage

Items going into storage for more than a few weeks need more careful packing than items moving directly to a new property. Follow these guidelines for best results:

Wrap all furniture in dust sheets

Soft furnishings, upholstered chairs and sofas should be covered with dust sheets or stored in protective bags. Even in a clean, dry facility, dust accumulates over time.

Seal all boxes properly

Every box should be sealed with packing tape and labelled on the side with the contents. Labels on the top are hidden when boxes are stacked.

Electronics in sealed boxes

TVs, computers and audio equipment should be in sealed, clearly labelled boxes. If original packaging is not available, wrap in bubble wrap and box individually.

Mattresses in mattress bags

Never store a mattress without a mattress bag. Even in a dry facility, unprotected mattresses can absorb moisture from the air over time and develop mould.
